# Quality of maps

There are several tools to [check the quality of the map](http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Quality_Assurance):

 - [Openstreetbugs](http://openstreetbugs.schokokeks.org/) can be used to report bugs
 - [Routing sites](http://www.yournavigation.org/?flat=22.659509181036&flon=120.29850959318&tlat=22.681447341336&tlon=120.29739379423&v=cycleroute&fast=1&layer=mapnik) can be used to check that roads connect properly
 - [Geofabrik map compare makes it easy to spot areas that may need work](http://tools.geofabrik.de)

# There is more than roads

Roads are very important, but there is so much more that can make a map
beautiful and useful.

# Maps are there to be used

You can not only map the territory, but also an experience:

 - [Places in Germany where you can drink Club Mate](http://www.cccmz.de/matekate/)
 - [Map of historic information/sites](http://www.histosm.org/)
 - [Sutton Green Map](http://map.oneplanetsutton.org/)
 - [University of Maryland map and routing](http://map.umd.edu/map/)
 - Map of best street food in Kaohsiung?

The OSM wiki has a long [list of OSM based services](http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/List_of_OSM_based_Services).

# Example use case: cycling

 - You can [make a custom map](http://www.opencyclemap.org/?zoom=15&lat=22.67879&lon=120.2994&layers=B000)
to make cycle roads the primary roads
 - You can make sure that [routing](http://www.yournavigation.org/?flat=22.659509181036&flon=120.29850959318&tlat=22.681447341336&tlon=120.29739379423&v=cycleroute&fast=1&layer=mapnik) works fine for bikes or pedestrians
 - There are also [maps for hiking](http://www.free-map.org.uk/freemap/index.php) and experiments on [wheelchair accessibility](http://www.wheelchair.accessiblemaps.org/?zoom=17&lat=22.58865&lon=120.32202&layers=B0TTTTTTTTTTTTT)

# Example use case: Wikipedia

Wikipedia supports geocoding, and can integrate with OSM!

 - [Wikipedia on OpenStreetMap](http://toolserver.org/~kolossos/openlayers/kml-on-ol.php?lat=22.65752&lon=120.32247&zoom=12&lang=en&layers=B0000FTTF) ([more info](http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProjekt_Georeferenzierung/Wikipedia-World/en))
 - [How to link from OSM to Wikipedia and back](http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Collaboration_with_Wikipedia#Link_from_OSM_wiki_to_Wikipedia)
 - [Wikimedia Commons on OpenStreetMap](http://toolserver.org/~kolossos/openlayers/commons-on-osm.php?lat=22.66679&lon=120.31492&zoom=13&layers=B0000TFT)
 - [Pictures and sematic data on the map](http://ookaboo.com/o/pictures/)

You could make a tourist map of Kaohsiung simply by writing geocoded Wikipedia
articles!

# Mobile tools that could be very useful

[POIs](http://www.lenz-online.de/osm?lat=22.68438&lon=120.29958&zoom=15&layers=M) are still not used to their full potential:

 - What's around me?
 - Find nearest POI from a useful selection: I'm thirsty! Where are the
   fountains?
 - Wikipedia tourist guide (maybe based on [Evopedia](http://evopedia.info/)?)

# Map Art

Maps can be used for art!
